Volvo: 1986 240 fuel problem ???, fuel pump relay, random failures

Question
my 1986 240 recently began stalling briefly as if starved for fuel...starts easily but will stall shortly into my drive to work..after stalling it runs great..if i turn car off even for 5 minutes this stall happens again  any suggestions?   thanks steve

Answer
It sounds like you might have a clog in your fuel line, or fuel system, something which floats around, and unclogges when you stop the car.  I would check and maybe replace your filter.  Also check your fuel pump relay, if it is giving out, it can cause random failures of the pump, starving the engine for fuel momentarly.  You can test this by having someone monitor the voltage to the pump while the car is running.  If the pump loses power when the car stalls, you know it is probably the relay.  Good luck!
