Volvo: Anecdote, real desire, tank fuel

Question
No question, Jason.  I just read your profile and it made me think of the 1982 240 2-Door DL I owned and loved.  When I bought it used it came with a complete set of what I called "The Green Books"--the Volvo published manuals.  I would read these in my spare time for fun, even when nothing was wrong!  They enabled me to complete most repairs on my vehicle, at first with many curses, later with love, including a replacement of the nefarious in-tank fuel pump.  After about 250,000 of my own miles I outgrew the car in 2000 and donated it to the Kidney Foundation.  When I shut the driver's door for the last time as they were towing to wherever they go, the door snick-clunked shut as if it was being driven off the showroom floor for the first time.  I will never forget that sound.

I can sympathize and respect when you say that your hobby grew into an obsession.  Once the Volvo gets into your blood, no matter how, there is no way (and no real desire) to leave it behind.

I have recently come back to the fold with a 1992 940 and I do have a question, but I will refer that to a different--not new, because "new" somehow connotates better--generation.

Best wishes.

Answer
I agree, the car definetly does get into your blood.  I'm a college student, and only wish I had more money to invest in the car, giving it the restoration it really deserves.  In the mean time, I'll live those dreams through the questions of others with more means than I!
