Volvo: Volvo 1991 cold start prob./ 5th gear, rotars, automatic transmissions

Question
Hey Jason, I have a 1991 940 Turbo. 230,000 miles.  Two
questions..
1)  I have seen the cold start problems here.  I have the same.
The mechanic replace the plugs, rotars and caps..  All was great
for three days-  now, it seems to be worse.  It will take a good 5
minutes-  It turns over and over and over..  and then it seems if I
do "fast turn overs" it starts quicker.   Any recommendations?

2)  The transmission is great runs very good, but in the morning,
I take it on the freeway and it won't flip up to 5th gear right
away-  After about 5-6 miles it does and then it is good for the
day, unless I let it sit for a few hours.  Any help?

Answer
1) I would check your injectors.  While the car cranks, check that fuel is squirting out the injectors.  If the car runs fine after it catches, I would especially check the cold start injector, a special one that helps get the car started when it is cold.

2) I'm a little confused as to what kind of of transmission you have.  You described the shifting as if it were an automatic, but there weren't 5 gear automatic transmissions.  Could you clarify?
