Volvo: Volvo S80 Overheating, electric cooling fan, coolant system

Question
Hello:
I have a 2000 S-80 with about 110,000 miles on it.  I have never had any problems with the coolant system until a few weeks ago, when it overheated twice.  Both times it was quite warm out and I spent time idling (one time stuck in traffic, one time talking to a neighbor).  My mechanic added coolant and refrigerant, but it hasn't helped.  Now I notice that when I am running the A/C sometimes it starts to overheat if I idle for several minutes, but is OK when I start going again.  This is intermittent, but when it does this, it is accompanied by the A/C cutting out by itself and blowing warm air.  Somehow the cooling problem and the A/C are related, but I can't tell which is the cause and which is the effect.

Any ideas on possible solutions or anything else I can do to diagnose?  Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Peter! The electric cooling fan on the radiator is most likely at fault. The S80's and V70's have had overheating problems due to the fan not working properly. The a/c blows warm because of the overheating. I would replace the fan and it should fix both problems.
