Volvo: Road / Tire Noise on 1995 850 wagon, front wheel bearings, sound insulation

Question
Hi Jimmy,

I just bought a used 1995 850 wagon. It is is very good condition and has 100,000 miltes on it. The only problem I have with it is that there appears to be excessive noise coming from the tires. I have changed the tires to Michelin All Weather with a less aggressive tread but the road noise is still there. The dealer says that there is nothing wrong with the front end or wheels and brakes. Is this just a case of too little sound insulation in the floors?

Answer
Hello Joe! The noise could be the front wheel bearings. When they go bad, it will make a loud rumbling noise that will travel through the car. It can sound like a bad tire. My guess is that one or both front wheel bearings are making the noise. I hope this info helps.
