Volvo: 1992 240 Volvo A/c, compressor clutch, cool to the touch

My 240 (150K- miles) is only blowing hot air. Compressor is cool to the touch. Car not over heating.  A mechanic (who didn't actually see the car) said it sounded like a restriction problem. What does that mean and is this a frequent 240 problem? What should I focus on or just take it to a mechanic? I'd like to be knowledgeable. Is driving the vehicle like this a problem.

Hello Hutch! I'm not sure how anyone can pinpoit the problem without looking at it. There may be a restriction, however there can also be other problems as well. Does the compressor clutch turn on? Has the car been coverted to R134a? The more info I have, the better I can help you.
