Volvo: ABS control failure, to Fix or not to Fix, that is the question!, power circuitry, crash statistics

Question
Hello, My Volvo 850 sedan with 120,000 miles , had the ABS control module fail at 85,000 miles.

Some insurance crash statistics indicate that ABS is very effective in wet weather crashes, but is related to costlier dry-weather crashes.

I live and drive in mostly dry weather, (90% dry, 10 % wet)

I have had several hard brakes recently where the car stopped or skidded very safely, but if the ABS was working would probably have travelled further, resulting in collisions.  This evening I braked hard, skidded on gravel and stopped. With ABS on, i would have entered the intersection.

ie i dont like the  ABS in dry braking. Although I accept it is good in wet braking.

Can I insist that an On/Off switch be installed in the ABS power circuitry so that I can choose to have the ABS on only if selected? Should I ask Volvo?

I believe this is the safer option.

Any thoughts?

Answer
Hello,
firstly I should say that driving the car with ABS is safer as you know. But this is your selection, if you do not like ABS, and you want to use the car without ABS, you can do it. But also I should say that your car has EBD or not. I think your car has EBD if your car's model is 95 or more. EBD Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, it assists to rear brakes when you brake, please think about it also.
On/Off switch is not possible, but to do is possible, I mean, if you remove the fuse for ABS it will be Off, when you insert the fuse it will on again, you can do it Off and On like this. Up to you...
