Volvo: Volvo 940 GL - Low Power..., volvo 940 gl, accelerator pedal

Question
Hello Jimmy!

I recently bought a 1992 Volvo 940 GL which had done 93,000 miles. I did realize that it had met with an accident as the driver's side has a make-over, as well as the grill-front.

The problem is, it lacks power. It makes at the most 70 mph and it takes 300 rpm to do that!
Also the gears dont shift swiftly but remain for sometime before shifting with a light jerk. The accelerator pedal too is hard and the above speed is hit at full throttle!

I am disheartened. Jimmy, I would indeed  appreciate if you could tell me where the prob is and what it might cost me.

Yesterday a friend of mine worked on it changing the spark plugs (to BOSCH 4 pin), trans tune-up, cap & rotor change, air-fliter change, and belts. The performance has changed only minimally.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

With much appreciation.

Cordially

Answer
Hello Glen! I wish I could tell you exactly where the problem is. However, it would be impossible without seein the car. That year and model is not big on power. It should go faster than 70mph though. I would check the basics first, timing, fuel pressure, transmision cable adjustment. It is best to have the car checked out by a qualified Volvo technician.
