Volvo: S40 Turbo, 2001 volvo s40, volvo s40

Question
Hi Jimmy,
I'm in the market to buy a car.  I found and test drove a 2001 volvo S40.  The car has 19000 miles on it and is in great condition.  I was planning on buying through volvo, so it will be certified pre-owned.  My dad is involved with the purchase because he is a mechanic.  So, we went to look at it and my dad realized it was turbo.  He said that is a huge risk and I should not buy the car because if something happens to it, I would be out a lot of money, and probably a car.  Can you please help me out?  I'm wondering if I should really worry about that going wrong or if it is smart to factor that in to my research.
Thank you.

Answer
Hello Theresa! If the car is a "certified pre-owned" car, you have nothing to worry about. Any major repairs would be covered under the warranty. Just make sure you get all service records and have it checked out by a qualified Volvo technician before you buy. The S40 is a good car. The only real fault that the car has is brakes. you will find that the brakes wear out fast. There is also a recall on the brake vacuum pump. Make sure it has been replaced.
