Volvo: Turbo questions, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 1993 945 Turbo.  I have been told by some friends that the problems I have with the car are caused by the turbo charger going out.  The car will start and run if you don't drive much faster than an idle.  As soon as you give it some gas the care dies and then may start or start with some difficulty.  Does this sound like a turbo problem or do you think I am looking at something else.  I also have 1996 850GLT that has a heavy metal rattle coming from the left front, also the ABS and Tracs light are on and will not go out unless some combination of turns (combination unknown) are made.  If the lights go out, it's only for a short time.  The 850 just had a new control arm and ball joint replaced.  I don't know if the rattle and lights are part of the same or separate problems.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob.

Answer
Hi,
Firstly your 945: The problem is not a turbo problem, because of turbo a car does not stop anytime. The problem is ignition or firing problem. The fuel comes to engine but can not be fired completely. Because of this reason when you give more gas, the engine is flooded and the car stops and so starts hardly. If you check the sparkplugs when the car stops, you will see that the sparkplugs are wet. The problem may be sparkplugs, igniton coils or related parts. Or there may be any air leakage from inlet or exhaust side, because of this leakage the control unit shows less air more fuel and so this rich mixture causes stopping of the engine. Mass air flow sensor can be defective. It is certain that the problem is not a turbo problem but there
may be a lot of causes to this problem, I mean it should be checked detailed.

And your 850: The problem can be related with ABS speed sensor, it is placed in the wheel. Or also the problem can be related again your last replacings (control arm, ball joint) it should be checked. Also, I can say that generally the ABS and Tracss of lamps light together because of ABS Control Unit problem.
