Volvo: keyless remote, remote keyless entry, volvo 850

Question
1997 Volvo 850. My remote keyless entry stopped working. I changed the batteries in the remote device, as I have on past ocassions, but it still doesn't work. I hear a single click when I press it (not loud, but enough to make me believe the device is functioning). There was no trauma to the device; it just stopped. The car radio is working and the fuse looked OK. It does not work no katter how close I hold the remote device to the transmitter in middle of windshield.

This is made worse by the fact that for some time there has been a problem with the manual key lock in the driver's side door, which no longer functions. So I have to climb in an out of the passenger door to lock the doors.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer
Hello! You need to get a new remote control. The new one must be programmed in order for it to work. The programming is very easy. With all the doors closed, turn the ignition on and off 5 times in a row. On the fifth turn hit the lock and unlock buttons on the remote. The remote should cost about $100. I hope this helps you.
