Volvo: Accident Damage, stabilizer bars, accident damage

Question
Jimmy:
My '90 240 DL took a rear end left quarter collision while parked.  Body damage exceeds $3100, the value insurance put on the car.  I want to fix it, but am concerned that there might be hidden expensive damage that will crop up later after the money was spent.  Main concern is the transmission.  Car was in park when hit and moved a few feet.  Is the transmission likely to have been damaged?  Park still holds the car in place, and the transmission seems to shift normally.  Can you think of other areas of the car that I should consider before commiting to the body repair?

Thanks,
Dave

Answer
Hello Dave! I would check the entire drivetrain. From the transmision, shifter and linkage, driveshaft and rear axle. Check all bushings and stabilizer bars in the rear end. I am sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident. I hope everyone is OK. I hope this info helps. I'll be here if you need me!
