Driving & Driving Test Tips: No more pop-up headlights?, protection provisions, pedestrian protection

Question
Hello Bob.

I was wondering as to why today's cars do not feature pop-up headlights, they were phased out sometime during the 1990s. What are the reasons as to why today's cars do not have pop-up headlights? Did it have to do with hampering aerodynamics or something else entirely?

Best regards,

Julian

Answer
This was a subject that I had not realize.  I was not sure of the answer, so I did a bit of research and found a sutiable answer on Wikipedia.  < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headlamp>
Basically it said that pop up lights are an added expense and "...because they present difficulties in complying with pedestrian-protection provisions recently added to international auto safety regulations,..."

If you would like further details - just google " pop-up lights" and will find a variety of sites to check out.

and by the way, I do think "Pop-ups" are cool!
