Driving & Driving Test Tips: winter driving in 2006 kia sportage, 4wheel drive, abs brakes

Question
I have just purchased this vehicle and do not know where or how to use the gears for driving on ice or in snow as we are having right now in the northeast.  Do not have the manual for the vehicle. On the right side of gear shift there is a + %26 - symbol.
Also there is an escape %26 4wheel drive button on left side of steering wheel. Which of these are used and how are they used for above mentioned driving conditions.

To be honest I do not know about this specific vehicle's gear selection.  You should read the manual to obtain the information that you are seeking.

In general in icy conditions you use low gear to start with and then once going well enough then up shift.  The thing to do in icy conditions is always keep a good distance behind traffic and, if you do not have ABS brakes, to pump the brakes when stopping.
