Driving & Driving Test Tips: EDR reading, 4x4 dodge, pontiac grand am

Question
A 2004 Pontiac Grand AM was traveling southbound at approximate speed of 75-80 mph.  The street went from a four lane road to a two lane road one going north and the other south.  The Pontiacs right tires went off the pavement and the driver jerked his steering wheel back onto the pavement but overcorrected and went across the centerline.  Then overcorrected his steering to get back into his south bound lane making the Pontiac start to slide sideways and collided head on with an oncoming 4x4 dodge ram.  After the investigation the EDR for the Pontiac revealed that the speed was 43 mph.  Is their a possibility that when the Pontiac started to slide sideways the road slowed down the tires enough to make the EDR think it was going at 43 mph and instead of 75 +- mph?  The road was estimated at a friction of 0.565 and the Pontiac weight was around 3640 lbs.

Answer
The EDR only comes awake when it thinks there is sufficient deceleration to possibly monitor if a collision is imminent.

It also only monitors straight ahead speed and not the speed as a vehicle is sliding sideways.

it is very possible that by the time there was a collision there was enough speed bled off from the sliding that it was only going 43 mph at the time of the collision, or when it woke up (depending on the typw of EDR).
