Driving & Driving Test Tips: Driving Test questions, driving test, left turn

Question
I got a couple of questions about certain things with the Driving Test, as I have failed it my first time.

First Question:  When stopping at a stop sign, with no stop line painted, do I have to stop before the sign, or can I stop up far enough up to see, without sticking out into the lane of traffic?  If I have to stop at the sign, and cannot see (after already stopping at the sign), when I move up to check to see if I can go or not, do I need to come to a complete stop again, or can I go if I am free?  (This refers to "double stopping", but I can't find any info about it, and I don't know if it is illegal.)

Second Question:  At a light, when I am making a left hand turn, and am the first car, am I allowed to pull out into the intersection, and wait to make my turn, or must I remain behind the painted white line, until I am clear enough to make my left hand turn?  I ask this, because many people pull up and stick out into the intersection until they can go, but I don't know if I can fail a test for doing this.

Thanks for any kind of response you can give me to these questions, as these are the areas that I am semi concerned about when I go to take my test again.

Answer
With no line on the roadway you can stop at the curbline.  Inching forward is not illegal and you don't have to stop again.

You can and should pull half the way across the intersection to make your left turn.  This also lets vehicles behind you get into the intersection to complete their turns behind you.
