Driving & Driving Test Tips: test, productive study, parent guardian

Question
i just took my drivers test in ohio. i passed maunueverabilty perfectly. but failed the road test. my examiner said i didnt yield to uncoming traffic. but really there was none coming the way i was going. it was a small street and i guess i turned too wide. how do i avoid that? and also what do yuo do when cars are parked on the side of the road...the guy said i was straddeling the lanes. but i had no choice, right??

Answer
HArd to answer when I can't see the exact situation.  Arguing the examiners points after the fact isn't productive.  Study the driving manual and practice.

It sounds to me like you are giving too much room when you turn or go by parked cars.  This is common with new drivers that don't know where the outside of their car is!

I suggest you get your parent/guardian or a licensed driver and go to a large empty parking lot.  Bring some tall pylons or something not too heavy (don't want to dent the car) for you  to practice driving close to.

SEt them up to be similar to a parked car and start driving by VERY slow.  Keep edging your car closer and closer till you almost touch the pylons (or whatever).  The goal is to get a feel for where the side of your car is so you can go by parked cars without giving too much room.

Same thing with turning corners, you can probably turn a lot tighter, use the same method to practice that.  And if you are still having problems with parallel parking, practice that too.

You will soon learn to place the car closer without hitting things.
