Driving & Driving Test Tips: Even though the minumum age..., driving in france, provisional licence

Question
Even though the minumum age to learn to drive in France is 18, will I be permitted to go over to France in my car even though I am 17 ?

Another question I have is, my car have no rear seatbelts fitted, is it illegal to cary passengers due to new laws, and is it my responsibility to get some new rear seatbelts fitted. Thank you very much

Answer
Hi,
Driving in France.
The rules are relevant to the country in which the licence is issued.
I assume that you have a UK licence?
If it is a full group B Then you are entitled to drive your car anywhere in the EU on it.
However if it is a provisional licence only, then French rules prevail, and you cannot drive in France.

Seatbelts.
If the year of manufacture of the car is such that rear seatbelts were not required to be fitted when new then the law does not apply to that car.
If it passed the MoT without them then you are OK.

However, should you decide to fit rear seatbelts to that car then they must be in good working order and worn ever after.

Hope this helps.
