4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: rearend, chevy pickup, stock unit

Question
Will a rearend out of a 1990 suburban fit in a 1994 chevy pickup or will one out of a late 70's work

Answer
Kevin,

I would call your local wrecking yard and check to see if they have a conversion number for this modification.  If it is 4-wheel drive, you need to make sure that it is the same gear ratio as the front end.  Even if it is 2-wheel drive, you will want to know the ratio so that you don't replace the stock unit with a higher or lower ratio than you want.
Other considerations would be the u-joints, is the drive line length appropriate if the replacement rear end is longer than the stock unit, etc.
I'm sure that you can make it work.  If the spring purchases are not the same width as the stock one, new ones can be welded on to make it fit.
If you know anyone who does minor fabrications, you can ask them what it would take to make it fit.
