4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 2003 yukon 4wd problem, drivetrain components, auto parts store

Question
I have a 2003 yukon, and I am having some of the same problems with my 4wd switch that another person identified as "yukon" had mentioned in a previous post. Mine sometimes switches into a different category on the automatic panel to the left....today it's stuck in the neutral between 2 hi and 4 hi. Is it unsafe or damaging to drive in this manner? What would cause it to keep switching withou being prompted?

Answer
Crystal,

Yes it is bad to drive with this problem.  If it is actually shifting into 4 hi on pavement, or hard surfaces, it can damage the transfer case along with other drivetrain components.

This can be caused by numerous things, such as a short in the wiring, a broken wire, bad ground, or a failed component such as the switch itself.

If you feel like tracing out the problem yourself, you should purchase a repair manual at a local auto parts store for the Yukon.  They are fairly reasonable and provide most of the trouble shooting techniques that you need to trace out the problem.

If not, then you should take it to a reputable shop and have it checked out.
