4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Isuzu Trooper 2001 4WD light flashing, isuzu trooper, paved surface

Question
Isuzu Trooper, 3.0L, 2001 Reg.  Can you tell me if it's right that, after being taken out of 4WD, the 4WD light on the dash should still flash until it's driven over 30MPH?

Answer
Bryan,

As far as I can find out, this is not right.  The light should go out as soon as the Trooper shifts into 2WD.  It sounds like your transfer case may be binding up.  This can happen if you are driving on a hard or paved surface in 4WD, as this puts the transfer case into a bind.

You may try driving 10-20 feet in reverse when you shift out of 4WD and see if that makes a difference.  This should relieve any binding in the transfer case, if that is the problem, and let it shift.

Actually, is the light flashing, or steady when you are in 4WD?  If it is flashing then you probably have a transfer case shifting problem.  When you are in 4WD, the light should be on steady and not flashing at all.

You may check in your user's manual if you have one to see if it describe this problem.
