4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 4x4, front wheel bearings, manual hubs

Hello, I have a 94 ford suv and when i turn the wheels sharp the 4x4 wants to engage it makes a grinding noise.So I engage it manually for a second then i disengage it then its fine. It seems to do it mostly in the winter time.I know its an old vehicle but I had it since day one. Thanks

I would suspect front wheel bearings, or possibly a bad front axle u-joint.  If you have manual hubs, then you may have one of those locking up and if this is the case, you can usually take them off and repair them.

There are other possibilities, but these are the most common items of failure.
