4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 97 Blazer 4wd problem, chevy blazer, drive shaft

Question
QUESTION: My 1997 Chevy Blazer will not shift into 4WD. The light comes on on the push button on the dash, but it does not shift into 4WD Hi or 4WD LO. What would most likely  cause this problem?
Thank You,
Dale

ANSWER: Dale , I would say that it could be the transfercase motor, if you can tap on it and have someone in trying to switch it for you . It seems weird that the light is on and it is not engaging, usually when the light is on it is engaged . Can you hear it clicking?

4WD lo?, or does one motor do both?
Dale

ANSWER: Dale, no there is only one motor that runs both of them , you should take the motor off the transfercase and see if it works right , if it shifts like it should . ADAM

QUESTION: Adam, Thanks to you I have learned a lot about my problem with this vehicle. I got both back and front wheels off the ground on one side and put it in 4WD. I found that the transfer case is shifting ok because the drive shaft to the front wheels turns when in 4WD and doesn't in 2WD. I still do not get any drive to the front wheels when in 4WD however. I noticed that when in 2WD, I can turn the drive shaft to the front wheels easily by hand. What could be wrong that I still do not get drive to the front wheels even though the drive shaft from the transfer case is turning? Thank you for your patience and help.
Dale

Answer
It is more than likely the accuator in the front end which engages the front wheels it will be a part that is screwer into the front end, it might be plastic, or it might be steel just depends on if it has been replaces before , check the wires coming off of the accuator, and see if you have juice to them . let me know ADAM
