4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 2001 GMC Yukon fuel issues, gmc yukon, volt ohm meter

Question
Question

2001 Yukon SLT 4wd
5.3 engine
Last 9 digits in VIN 81J128059

2 weeks ago, Engine started missing a little bit. I would observe sluggish acceleration, when attempting to gain speed. This past weekend the vehicle started missing more and has died several times. I was told it was the fuel filter. I replaced it, however, same problem, even dying more frequently (acting as though it were out of gas). Sometimes the fuel pump comes on (the vehicle will start) and sometimes it doesn't. The fuel pump was replaced about 1.5 years ago. The filter that was replaced had been the original. Is this the sign of the fuel pump going bad (why would it come on at all if it was bad).

I appreciate all help. Thank you for all considerations and offers of assistance.

Answer
usually when the fuel pump goes, it just goes no signs of going bad just dies. however, if the widings in the pump are going bad since esentially it is just an elestric motor this could be the issue. I have no way of verifying without seeing the truck myself. Might need a pump afterall Leo. Now to explain the fuel filter, if you changed the fuel filter and the problem seemed like it got worse it could have been dirty as well. The fact that it got worse was that there was trash in the fuel filter and the pump was building up pressure behind it so when it finally built enough pressure to push fuel through it sustained it running. Now that you have the new filter, the flow is free'd up and you have less fuel pressure so the problem was amplified by the filter change. I would pull the tank and pump and inspect for any trash on the in-tank filter or sock on the pump and check for rust or trash inside the tank and clean as needed. With a volt-ohm meter check the resistance on the pump and it should be less than 1 ohm if it is good. If not, you need a new pump as the brushes in the motor are corroded and you need a new pump
