4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 87 Wrangler starting problems, neutral safety switch, starter solenoid

Question
I have an 1987 Wrangler 4.2 Automatic, Weber Carb. For a while it would not shut off when the key was turned off. It then developed a new problem it would drain the battery over a few days. I replaced the Starter and Starter Solenoid. When you turn the key to start nothing happens. If you jumper from one side of the solenoid to the other with the key in the on position the Jeep starts up no problem and shuts off with the Key. I am looking for or even if the Jeep has a starter relay or is that only on manual trans. Jeeps. Could this be a problem with the neutral safety switch or am I missing something? Is there a test that can be done on the solenoid to verify new one is good. Thanks

Answer
To verify thew new solenoid is good look foe the small pin on the side of the solenoid that a small wire hooks to. Put power from the side of the solenoid closest to the battery to that pin and it should start. If not you have a bad solenoid. If it does, you may have a neutral switch bad ir a wire bad from the switch to the solenoid
