4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 02 Denali binding on sharp turn, gmc yukon denali, gmc yukon

Question
QUESTION: I have an 02 gmc yukon denali after driving 10 - 15 miles then make a sharp turn it is binding up. I just had the front diff. rebuilt because carrier bearings were bad. It did the same thing before i had this done. I assumed it was because of the bad bearing. Would greatly appriciate your take on it. Thanks

ANSWER: Matt,

It sounds to me like the truck is stuck in 4 wheel drive. This is about the only thing that will cause it to bind in turns as well as wear out the front carrier

QUESTION: it is a Yukon Denali they are AWD all wheel drive.

Answer
Ok,

if it is all wheel drive then here is your problem. The transfer case on the AWD system has a viscous clutch in it. It releases the front drive shaft when you turn so it will nor bind up since it is practically in 4 wheel drive (same setup just no selector and the addition of the clutch) That clutch is bad or locked up and won't let the frot end disengage when needed. This requires the tranfer case to be split open and rebuilt to fix the problem so may be a transmission shop job
