4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Erratic Idle, throttle body, 4l

Question
I own a 99 chevy 2500 suburban with a 7.4L engine. When I start the truck it has an erratic idle (goes high then comes down to almost a stall) this continues for a few minutes before settling down. What would cause this problem?

Maybe the idle air control vale having carbon in it making it slow moving and jumpy. It should be right at the throttle body on the intake, take it odd and you can clean it with either brake clean or solvent...NO CARBURETOR CLEANER!!! Try that out and see if its the fix
