4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 4-wheel drive wont disenage front drive line, automatic locking hubs, dodge 4x4

Question
The idiot light in my 2003 Dodge 4x4 is not illuminated for 4 wheel drive however, my front drive line is turning.  I hear a clunking noise at lower speeds and hear nothing when over 35 mph.

Answer
The clunking noise is a bad U-joint locate which one it is and replace it as soon as possible.
as for the drive line turning,
first make sure if you have manual hubs make sure they are on "free" if you have automatic locking hubs then back up for about 15-20 feet then drive forward, this should unlock your hubs, if it does not then try putting your vehicle in 4x4 then drive for a short distance, then stop take it out of 4x4 and put it in 2x4, then back up about 15-20 feet then drive forward this should disengage your hubs.
