4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: different maf, maf sensor, maf sensors

Question
Hi.I have a '93 Ford Explorer w/4.0L V6.It started sputtering and idling rough. I pulled codes 157 & 158. I cleaned the maf but still got a code 157. So off to the junk yard I went. All the Explorers that were there already had their maf sensors pulled. So I pulled one from a Taurus with a 3.8L V6. It seems to run fine besides idling slightly rougher than it used to and I'm getting all clear codes. I haven't put a meter to it yet.Is it ok for me to use this maf?

Answer
Ralaroco,

As I have stated, I'm not a mechanic by trade, and every vehicle has different codes.  You're pulling computer components from a different vehicle, so it's hard to say, how compatible the 2 maf's would be.

I would check with a reputable shop, and see if they have a cross-reference book to see if the two units are interchangeable.

I do find it interesting that both codes came up.  Code 157 indicates that the MAF sensor is below minimum voltage, and code 158 shows that the MAF sensor is above minimum voltage.

You might have a shop check out the system with a higher end scanner.
