4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: jeep front end, jeep grand cherokee, tie rod ends

Question
we have a 99 jeep grand cherokee, and the front end feels "loose". the vehicle travels to the left and right while driving. i've replaced the steering stabalizer. our mechanic says it might be the carrier bearings.
any help will be appriciated.

Answer
Kirk,

I would take the Jeep to a reputable front end shop.  What you are describing, can vary from bad shocks to worn steering components, such as tie rod ends, or the steering box itself.  A good front end alignment should find your problem.  If your mechanic is talking about the carrier bearings in the front differential, they have nothing to do with the steering, and should not cause your problem.
