4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Check Engine light, jeep grand cherokee, oxygen sensor

Question
I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 6 Cly. and a automatic trans. The check engine light came on, I had it checked and found out the speed sensor was bad. I replaced the speed sensor and the light did not go out. should the light go out by it self, do I need to clear it, or is there still another problem.

Thanks

Answer
Fred,

The most common failed component that will cause the check engine light to go on is the Oxygen sensor.  There are others that can cause this, and the best way to check this out, is to have an electronic diagnostic run on the engine.  This will check the error code that caused the light to come on, and which component to replace.  Depending on the code, you may have to turn off the light with a code reader.
