4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: FUEL MILEAGE AND TRANNY SENSORS, better mileage, fuel mileage

Question
I HAVE AN 89 CHEROKEE I6 4.0 FUEL INJECTED AND I AM GETTING ABOUT 200 MILES TO A TANK ON HIGHWAY WITH NO LOAD. I AM WOUNDERING IF THERE ARE ANY SENSORS THAT I SHOULD REPLACE WITH 150 K MILES ON MY JEEP. ALSO I AM HAVING A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH MY TRANY SLIPPING IN HIGH GEAR.

Answer
Jonathon,

First of all, I would get the tranny checked out and repaired asap.  As far as sensors go, I would replace the oxygen sensor.  You should be getting better mileage than that, but with the tranny slipping, it's hard to say how much that would affect the mileage.  If there is other concerns, you can take the Jeep to a reputable shop, and have them run a diagnostic test on the Jeep.  This would show up any other faulty sensors, or problems that you may have.
