4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 4Runner Maintenance, fuel injector cleaner, toyota 4runner

Question
I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with 30,025 miles on it.  I brought my vehicle in for my 30,000 mile maintenance.  Later in the day I received a call from the service dept. saying my vehicle needed additional work: 1. Rear differential cleaning and 2.Throttle body service for an additional $200 fee.  I questioned why this was not part of the scheduled maintenance according to my manual and was told Toyota only suggests the minimum. I declined. My question is this maintenance really necessary at that price or was I just being given the "Female" treatment?

Answer
Hi Charlene, you were being given the treatment, I would say.  I would take the rig by an Express Lube (or 10 minute Lube) and ask them to check the differential fluid levels and condition for you during a normal oil change.

buy some STP or other Fuel Injector Cleaner (Wal mart) and pour in a can every now and then to keep the injectors clean.

Read the stuff on my web site if you're interested in learning more; or visit the links on my web and read what other toyota folks are doing.

good luck, Del   www.delalbright.com
