4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 98 Ford Explorer, ford explorer sport, ford explorers

Question
Hi... my sister is giving me her 98 Ford Explorer Sport.  It is a 4 wheel drive.  I have been driving the car for some months now and I notice in the mornings when the car has sat for hours and the weather is colder.  Once I start the engine the engine will race like i have pressed the gas.  Then when it starts the settle it kinda jumps and sometimes cuts off if I don't hit the gas.  Does this mean I need a tune up?  Please help!

Answer
Hi Nikki, yea, it does sound like tune up time, probably carburation.  There is a web site that talks about Ford Explorers solely.  They have forums where you can post a question and several guys will probably jump in with ideas.

You should do a diagnostics test first -- which I explain on my web site, so you can clearly define when it happens and how it happens.  For example does it do it on warm days.  does it do it after sitting for just a few hours?

do the diagnostics, then visit the links to FORD EXPLORERS and ELECTRONICS on my web site.
Go here and follow the links to Vehicle Modifications and Fixits.  http://www.delalbright.com/

Good luck, Del
