4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: oil check

Hello

Recently, every time I check the engine oil, the dip stick will show on one side ( the one with MIN and MAX) about 1/2 full  about midway between MIN and MAX), but on the OTHER side of the stick it is much higher, like I have too much oil. I do check it first thing in the morning when the engine is cold. I use only Castrol GTX  5/30  for card over 80,000 miles.  

Any adivese here, please?

This really doesn't make sense, as the dip stick is inserted into the oil and both sides should have the same amount of oil on them.

I would warm it up before checking the oil anyway, as the oil will be thinner and give you a better reading.  Remove the dipstick and wipe it off with a clean rag, then put it back into the engine and pull it out again checking the oil.  Make sure the engine is not running when you check the oil also.
