Jeep: Heater on a 91 Wrangler, heater fan, rule of thumb

Question
I need your advice on my heater that is not working. The last time it worked was a few months ago. I turned on the heater and it came on but with less power than normal even though it was at the highest setting. It then started to decrease in power almost like it was dying. Sure enough it slowly gave out. Now it doesn't even come on. I checked the fuse and it was ok. I even bought a new fuse and replaced the old one but nothing. I had a buddy check it out and he said he thought it could be an electrical short and I should have someone who knows electrical look at it. I am of the opinion though that the motor is just dead. However, how could I check it or confirm that it is dead? The Jeep has 126,000 miles on it and I have never replaced the heater motor before. Finally, if I do have to replace the heater motor is it something I can do myself? Thank You Mr. Brown!!!!

Answer
If the motor is getting adquate voltage and assuming the heater fan switch checks out, I would suspect the heater motor as the culprit.
Can you do it yourself: I have a rule of thumb that if someone has to ask, they can't.  Leave the job to someone familiar with replacement, it's not an easy job.  The motor itself is not all that expensive, it's the labor that will kill you.
