Jeep: 1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo rear noise, jeep cherokee laredo, rear driveshaft

Question
1992 jeep cherokee laredo 4-wheel drive with selec-trac transfer case. Towed this jeep about 50,000 miles behind a Motorhome and it now has about 69,000 miles on the speedometer.

Have a clunking noise from the rear when accelerating from a stop. Had u-joints replaced on the rear driveshaft but didn't help. Could this be a problem in the transfer case or what?

Where can I learn more about a transfer case?

Thanks very much!!!

Answer
The problem could very well be the transfer case.  I am one that believes that transfer cases do not get adequate lubrication when towed with the case in neutral, only half of the parts are moving and not slinging lubricate the way it would if all were moving. The only real way of telling for sure is to put your Jeep up on a hoist and run it, listening for transfer case noise.
I would almost guarantee that you have slack in the gear chain that may or may not be a result of towing.
