Suzuki: Suzuki SJ410 1984- 4x4 gear shift sticking issues, suzuki sj410, rocky road outfitters

Question
Hi David

The transfer box keeps jamming- first time in neutral, second time in H4. I know how to sort the problem out by lifting the gear lever out & reselecting it with a screwdriver. I need to know how to sort the recurring issue out. Is there supposed to be a bush on the end of the 'ball'?

Thank you

Charles

Answer
Both the transmission and transfer case have a replaceable semi-round "socket" bush at the bottom of the shift lever ball.  There is also a replaceable pin that protrudes and engages a slot in the ball at the bottom of the shift lever.  When these wear, the sort of problems you are describing occur.  If you look on the site Izook.com, you will find links to some suppliers of parts.  Personally, I've generally used trail tough, but look around. There's another site rocky road outfitters that have lots of stuff.  The rocky road guys are sort of arrogant about their stuff, which is not nearly as "best in the world" as they claim, so I usually go to trail tough instead. The kits you need are quite inexpensive, made of superior materials to factory, and will do the trick.
