Suzuki: 96 sidekick sport jlx rear bearing, retaining ring, tone ring

Question
Suzuki: 96 sidekick sport jlx rear bearing, retaining ring, tone ring
sidekick axle
I pulled the drivers side rear axle out of the sidekick after the seal gave and the bearing was making noise. I have been able to find the parts to replace the bearing and what appears to be a retaining ring. There is what looks like another ring between the bearing and the retaining ring as it is positioned on the shaft. It looks like a component of the ABS; it is looks like a spline and is about 5/8" thick. It sort of looks like a gear. Do I need to replace that as well? Also do I need to replace the metal housing with 4 bolts that hold the whole thing in? The reason I ask this is because it looks like it might get damaged when trying to remove the bearing and retaining ring.

Answer
The retaining ring should be replaced because it is usually damaged in removal.
It appear that you have an abs "tone ring" between the retaining ring and bearing.
If it's damaged, replace it.
The usual procedure has been to either heat the retainer until it can be distorted with a large chisel and hammer while just barely red hot, and immediately quenched.
The alternative, if a press that will engage the bearing is available would be to press everything off.
I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL FOR THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE, AND CANT BE CERTAIN, SO YOU NEED TO BE CERTAIN THAT THERE ARE NO RETAINERS/CIRCLIPS, ETC. UNDERNEATH THE RETAINING RING, OR TONE RING.  SHOULD SOMETHING LIKE THAT BE IN THE PARTS STACK IT COULD BADLY DAMAGE THE AXLE IF IT WERE PRESSED WITHOUT REMOVING THEM.
