Suzuki: High idle, 2001 suzuki xl7, ambient temp

Question
I have a 2001 Suzuki XL7 when I start it it revs up to 2200RPM's then slowly comes back to normal within 4 to 5 minutes depending how cold it is. What could be the cause of this?

Answer
The ECM (engine control module) or in simpler terms, the computer, is programmed to do this to keep it running smoothly and cleanly during warmup.  I've heard of warm-up cycles that last more than 14 minutes when the ambient temp is -45F.
It's normal and desirable, and will help the engine last longer.
You do NOT want to try to disable or bypass this.
