Suzuki: 1996 Susuki Sidekick, wheel hubs, manual hubs

Question
QUESTION: My Suzuki has manual hubs an is a standard. When I lock the hubs up and shift into 4wd,the front wheels don't engage. When I shift into 4wd low range it bogs down as if I'm in 4wd low, but wheels still not engaged. Could this be a vacuum problem?

ANSWER: Since the hubs are manual, and the linkage to the trans is mechanical, I don't see how vacuum could be involved.

Answer
I would verify that the transfer case is causing the front driveshaft to be engaged in both 4hi and 4lo.
I would verify that the differential is in fact able to transfer rotation from the driveshaft to the halfshafts.
I would verify that the hubs actually do engage and disengage the halfshafts and the wheel hubs.

Once, I ran across an issue  where the hubs wouldn't disengage... it turns out the owner was pressure washing up far too close and injecting water into the hubs, which, after it froze, prohibited hub change functions.
is it possible that is the case with yours?
