Suzuki: Transmission and clutch, allexpert, suzuki swift

Question
Hey Justin:
I make almost half of my living from my 1989 Suzuki Swift 1.3 litre, single over head cam.  It's my second one (first one is now for parts).  I'm starting to get concerned (at over 337 000 km or just over 200 000 miles).  I think I've figured out the clutch thing.  When I let it out the car doesn't move ahead immediately like it used to.  I think its seen better days, but wonder what you think.  When the weather is hot,  when accelerating or going up hill the car motor will accelerate while the car does not.  When it's cold out this problem is much less apparent.

Recently the transmission has developed a hum, not a grind or anything of that sort.  I haven't checked the transmission oil, but wonder if you'ld recommend that the tran. oil be changed.  The car is awsome and at this point doesn't owe me a dime.  I purchased it as a disposable car and am at the point of wondering if it's not worth investing any coin into it.

I've replaced a head and a timing belt succesfully (with the direction of another allexpert over a year ago.

Is there a simple fix?  Your thoughts?

Brian

Answer
You're spot on with the clutch, a new one will fix your problem.  The hum is very had to diagnose, could be a bearing going.  Definitely check/change the oil, have you been changing it at the specified periods?

If the oil is not the problem and you take the car to a shop to get the clutch fixed ask them to check out the noise for you.
