Tips on Buying Cars: selling a car to buy a cheaper one, local news papers, economic vehicle

Question
My question is along the lines of the one on "trading down."  I was considering doing this but you advised selling the more expensive vehicle on my own and then buying the cheaper used vehicle I want.  Sounds good on paper but I really have no idea of the best way to sell a vehicle.  I haven't sold a vehicle in several years and when I did so they were near junkers that were easy to get rid of for a few hundred dollars.  I have a 2002 GMC Envoy SLT (loaded with extras) that I would like to sell and pay off my loan since I am unemployed and want to get a more practical, cheap vehicle.  The Envoy is in excellent shape but has 125,000 miles on it.  I live in a low cost of living area with the biggest city being about 25,000 people.  What specific suggestions do you have for me to sell my vehicle and what would you suggest as an asking price?  Should I try online, a newspaper, go to a used car dealer?  Of course, it would also be great to get a suggestion on a reliable, economic vehicle I could pick up for about $2,500 but I won't push it.  Thank you so much for your help.

^ a simple little selling guide to help you out a little...

pricing... hmmm... I would list it at 11500 to start.. based on local vehicles around my area that is a little high... but thats how I sell... start high and go down after a few weeks.... if you are looking for a quicker sale.. start at 10500... assume to come down to 10000 or 9500 - it will be up to you, and your current debt which price is the lowest you will go - but dont go below what you want for it - no matter what.

sell it - look up a used 95 civic for 3000 or so - talk them down to 2500 and drive it till it falls apart.. and until you are out of debt... If you have a hard time selling the envoy - look at trade ins - if time is important the time saved can be better than the money lost...
