Tips on Buying Cars: 1988 Toyota Corolla Wagon, toyota corolla wagon, toyota corolla

Question
Do not question why but driving home one night I noticed a light blue 1988 Toyota Corolla Wagon for sale. It has 92,000 original miles on it, no rust, and very clean interior and exterior visually. I really want this car for some odd reason. I just fell in love with it. The small dealership is asking $2995 and when I looked it up on NADA it says highest amount approximates at $2200. So of course I will be looking to get a better deal since my bank goes by NADA. What should I be on the look out for to be wrong with this car though? I haven't test driven it yet but would like an idea of what I should maybe look for right away? I just need to get some back up info so when I propose this purchase to my dad and other male family members I don't get automatically shut down for it being a Toyota (Ford Family) and it being so old. Thanks for any help you can give!

Answer
$2,995 is absolutely crazy money for an 88 Corolla and $2,200 NADA is too high as well.  NADA is only a "suggested asking price" from where negotiations should start.  Low mileage or not, that is a $1,200 - $1,800 car.
Unless you think you can buy it for that, there's no reason for me to go into more detail.
Yes, someone with really bad credit will end up paying $2,995 for it just to get the financing through the "buy here/pay here" lot.
