Tips on Buying Cars: extended warranty on used vehical, chrysler warranty, chrysler sebring

Question
Aaron, Thanks for your quick response.

The warranty offered is 80,000 or 8 years from date of original purchase.

Don't know what the orig warranty from factory was, but it is probably the standard Chrysler warranty.

Located in Las Vegas.

I will probably keep the car 5 years, minimum with about 12000 miles per year.

I will be paying cash for the car.

I can't express how much I appreciate your insight, I'm an idiot when it comes to this "stuff"

Hi Aaron,

I know that there are a lot of variables, but generally speaking, is an extended warranty a sensible thing?

I'm looking at a 2006 Chrysler sebring touring convertible with 11,000 miles. The extended warranty offered is bumper to bumper up to 80,000 miles and the cost is apprx 1700.00.

Would you?

Thanks for any guidance as I'm an idiot in this area and can be easily taken.

Hi Don,

Short answer.......YES. Some questions that I wonder though, are: what is the year term they are proposing along with the 80K miles; what is the factory warranty on that exact car; where are you located; what warranty company is the dealer proposing to use; do they have the option of selling the car to you as a Certified Pre-Owned car; how much driving a year do you anticipate doing; how long do you think you'll keep the car; are you doing any financing, or are you paying cash? If you can answer all of these questions for me, I can probably be of more assistance.

Answer
Don,

The term sounds fine for your situation. I would tell them that you are somewhat interested, but will not spend more than $1200 for that coverage (unless Nevada has prices fixed BY LAW/which it probably does not). The only other concern that I have is what warranty company is it with? If it's one you've heard of, great! If not, maybe not so great.
Good luck!

Aaron
