Tips on Buying Cars: BMW Warranty Question, national customer service, cpo warranty

Question
Hello,
I'm thinking of buying a used 2003 BMW Z4 from a local Acura dealership, its on their used lot.  They said they took it in on a trade.  I'm told that the guy who traded it in bought it as a Certified Pre-Owned, therefore it comes with the 100,000/6 year warranty that comes with the CPO program.  You can see the car here:
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&paId=209...

I have a couple questions:  is there a way to find out for sure if this car is a CPO and covered under that warranty and is the warranty fully transferable to me?
Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Kevin

Answer
Kevin,

My apologies for the delay in replying.

Thanks for sending the URL to the Z4; as expected it looks great! I was BMW driver for years in both the 3 & 5 series, but have recently switched to the dark side--Porsche! But it's still German engineering at its finest.

To make sure I had the right information for you, I contacted BMW directly to get your answers.

BMW's CPO warranty program adds an additional 2 yr / 50,000 miles to the original 4 yr / 50,000 factory offer. BMW did confirm that a CPO warranty is attached to the vehicle, not the owner, so it is transferable. Regardless of what the Acura dealer tells you, you can call BMW National Customer Service directly at 800.831.1117, give them the VIN and they will confirm if a CPO warranty is registered on the car.

This should give you what you need to know, Kevin. Good luck, and enjoy the h(eck) out of the Z4!

Regards,

Ron
