Tips on Buying Cars: car key $85.00? why???, programmed chip, car key

I bought a Ford Focus 2003 from the dealer just now and wanted an extra key and they said they didn't have it but a key place makes them for $85.00..That is OUTRAGEOUS..it is has some chip inside the key but what is that for?  Is there anyplace I can get a key made for less than ten dollars? Thankx..

I like to be on the consumers side, but with your problem i cant, $ 85. for a key with a programmed chip to signal the engine to start is cheap...

And its the same old story that happens thousand of times every day, buyer arrives to pick up his new used car, and only gets one key,consider yourself lucky if you got a manual...

Angie...i wish you would have learned some steps on my website before buying and you would have had 2 keys...
