Tips on Buying Cars: transferring 2 lease vihicles to different names, vihicles, jeep commander

Question
There was a similiar question asked, but i need it explained a little better to me. My father-in-law leased a jeep liberty about 6 months ago. he decided that he no longer liked it and conned my husband into taking it, but my husband didnt do it the right way. He went out and leased the Jeep commander under his name and his father is now driving it and i am driving the jeep liberty. i want the liberty in our name oviously because we are driving it and i want the commander switched to my father-in-laws name, do you think they will switch the names on the leases with out us being responsible for the commander payments?

thank you

Answer
Technically the answer is the original signer of the lease is responsible for ALL provisions thereof.  Also there is a question of insurance on a vehicle you do not legally have posession of.  If the lease agreement is with Chrysler Credit and if both you and your father-in-law have decent credit they will probably be glad do what they call a "substitution of collateral" and make both of you legal.  If an independent lease company you might still be able to do this, but only if they want to.  Let me know if you have a problem and I will try to help further.  Best of luck, Bud
