Ray,

I found a local broker who deals in higher mileage cars.  I found a nice 940 non-turbo volvo wagon with 126,000 miles for $3000.  Car is in good condition with the exception of a dented hood that can be repair/replaced for about $500. I currently drive a 1997 Saturn wagon and plan on selling it for close to what the Volvo sells for.  Volvo has more room and I believe it is more reliable.  On the flip side, I know my Saturn.  It has been very reliable and still runs excellent with 90k miles.  The higher mileage Volvo is an unknown.

Hi Mark
You did not state the year of the Volvo...while you may gain more room consider should you have break downs it will be more costly than the Saturn...

Check out the Volvo through CARFAX for history and accident before final decision...

As for the Volvo being more reliable, yes its very excellent workmanship, have you own mechanic check it out

Answer
Hi again Mark
You must consider your going 3 years older than what you have at present... buying any vehicle going back over 10 model years i would never judge it by price, performance and condition and what i would be willing to pay is all that matters, you cant put a true amount on a vehicle that old it really comes down to what a consumer is willing to pay ... 2 identical vehicles 1994 can be miles apart one worth $ 500. and the other $ 2500.
I have started to build a website about used cars be my guest go there, maybe you will pick up a few pointers copy and paste
