Tips on Buying Cars: Accuracy of CARFAX reports, carfax reports, buying a used car

I've been searching for a used car for my 16-year old son. I'm concerned about unknowingly buying a car with a turned back odometer. I've gotten CARFAX reports before and have trusted the mileage timelines as reported. Recently I discussed this with my mechaninc and he said that he's not sure that CARFAX catches all vehicle history when cars cross from state-to-state. Do you have an opinion on the accuracy of CARFAX reports?

I am located in Canada therefore cant answer your question to your satisfaction, but will tell you its an area that cant be controlled 100%...If i was buying a used car overall condition would be my main concern getting valid value for my money... not miles...
